Hymans Robertson LLP

Alt text Hymans Robertson LLP are specialists in advisory and management services to the occupational pensions market in both the private and public sectors. Providing such core services as investment and actuarial consultancy, pension scheme design and management, and third party administration, they are one of the most respected firms in their field and are winners of the UK Pensions Awards for investment and actuarial consultancy.

Challenge

Presentations on pensions are highly technical at the best of times and Hymans Robertson was keen to add some interaction to the proceedings and introduce some audience participation from the audience of Trustees. Meetings of the Trustees are usually held in three different locations, which meant that administrative costs in producing a report based on all Trustee opinions were high and took time to compile. The company was looking for a way to reduce these costs.

Solution

The company originally had a consultation with a member of the Eurosis sales team and realised that the electronic voting system could do a lot more than first thought. Apart from adding that all important interaction to the meeting, the audience response system was able to merge the results to give the client one report based on the results from all three locations, saving the company time and money. Hymans Robertson also decided to utilise the comparison facility and asked the Chairman to pose a series of questions at the beginning of the meeting and the same questions again at the end, to see if trustees’ opinions had changed.

Conclusion

Hymans Robertson LLP was extremely impressed with the electronic voting system. In fact, so pleased were they with the results that they published the data from the sessions as a trustee poll in the trade magazine “Professional Pensions” , gaining free advertising in the process and increasing the company profile. The published article is to be the first in a series focused on the results from the voting sessions. Using the comparison facility enabled Hymans Robertson to judge whether the Trustees opinions changed as a result of what had been discussed at the meeting, facilitating the decision-making process. The interactive voting system added to the enjoyment of the day and, as a result, the company have decided to continue using electronic voting systems at future meetings, as well as introducing the wireless keypads to their consultants for use in client seminars.
