Please click here to view our home page. Setting up a European Works Council can be a daunting prospect. It is something that most companies only do once a year and it is therefore important to make sure that the meetings are a success. The primary aim of a European Works Council is to “inform and consult”. It is an opportunity for employees to ask senior management questions concerning the company and for the management to relay information to employees via the European Works Council representatives. The employees elect European Works Council representatives locally and any employee, regardless of their language skills can be selected as a European Works Council representative. The European Works Council directive indicates that all delegates should have access to language facilities throughout the duration of the meeting. It is therefore imperative that simultaneous interpretation is provided, ensuring that all delegates can participate fully in the meeting. Simultaneous interpretation allows participants to listen to and speak in their own language by way of interpreters, ensuring that the European Works Council representatives are able to converse freely regardless of language barriers. The equipment used at a European Works Council is the same used for any type of meeting where delegates sitting around a table require simultaneous interpretation. At Eurosis, we provide both the interpreters and equipment, along with a qualified technician to install and operate the equipment during the European Works Council meeting. Installing the equipment is straight forward with each delegate having a digital microphone, which acts, both as a listening point and a microphone. The simultaneous interpreters are situated in sound-proofed booths for the duration of the European Works Council meeting, although they may also be required to attend dinner in the evening, for a more social type of interpreting where no equipment is required. Every European Works Council meeting is different and each company
has specific requirements. Eurosis has worked all over
Europe with a large number of multinational companies to help make their
